National Health Care
Dear :
Please, please vote against the government-run healthcare
bill currently being proposed in Congress. This legislation is so horribly
wrong on so many levels. From an economic perspective, it will bankrupt us. The
proof of this can be found in the legislation itself, or by looking at all of
the similar attempts at socialized medicine and other countries around the
world, or by looking at the bankrupt Medicare and Medicaid systems.
In addition, this program will ruin our healthcare, which
is currently the best healthcare program in the world. How many Americans go to
other countries for medical treatment? Conversely, how many people from other
countries come to America for medical treatment? These numbers provide
extremely strong evidence that we should not change our system to be more like
theirs. Government run healthcare will lead to a sharp decrease in the
availability of healthcare in general. Long waits for procedures can and do
decrease the length and quality of many people’s lives.
This program would also give the government the ability
to decide how long seniors should live, which in itself is a horrid concept,
especially in any nation that wants to consider itself to be a “free country.”
The program would also give the government excuse to be very intrusive into
people’s lives, and to force all sorts of lifestyle decisions on them, all in
the name of keeping healthcare costs low.
Finally, the most important reason: it is not
the role of government to do something like this. The only reason why people
need a government all is to outlaw the use of force against its citizens,
thereby allowing them the freedom to live their lives in the way that they
choose. A reading of the Constitution reveals that the Founding Fathers
understood this basic idea. They knew that the government should be subordinate
to the people, not the other way around. In fact, some of the Founders were
opposed to the Bill of Rights because they felt that the very existence of such
a document would implicitly reverse this relationship.
Thanks in advance for your consideration and prompt
action on this matter.

Help the Economy: Cut
taxes
Dear :
Please initiate legislation to cut taxes, and vote in
favor of any other legislation that does so. Any and all taxes need to be cut.
The government can and should operate on a mere fraction of its current budget.
Furthermore, both Democrat and Republican presidents have shown that cutting
taxes actually increases tax
revenue. Of course, there are members of Congress who knows this and yet who
vote against tax cuts, because they want the power to determine the amount of
money that different people receive.
When taxes are cut, the economy prospers. The private
sector grows, and the public sector generally shrinks because
there is less demand for it. When taxes are cut, people get to keep more of
the money that they earned, so
cutting taxes is the moral and just thing to do.
There are two supposed drawbacks to decreasing taxes. For
one thing, by allowing people to keep more of the money they earn, it tends to
reveal that some people create more
wealth than others. This is just a fact of reality, and should not be used
as a reason to shift the country away from capitalism and towards a
totalitarian government. The other drawback is that it decreases the power of
politicians—which is clearly only a criticism in the eyes of a
politician.
Whenever someone in Congress proposes a tax cut, the
liberals are quick to clamor that it will only be a tax cut for the rich. It is
true that the rich will save more money than the poor. This is a factor of
mathematics since, by definition, rich people make more money than poor people.
How is this a problem? Besides, at present, the richest 10% of the population
pay well over half of the country’s taxes already. So, if you encounter this
particular argument from liberals, you can confidently respond that you are
helping to rectify what is currently an unjust tax structure. Basically, our
current tax system seeks to punish people for making money, and the liberals
actually seek to change things even more in that direction.
Thanks in advance for your consideration and prompt
action on this matter.

Give back the banks and the car
companies
Dear :
Please initiate legislation to end US government
ownership of any business. As I’m sure you know, ownership of businesses by a
government is known as fascism, and it is the antithesis of the capitalist
system that America was designed to be.
When the government owns a business, even if just part of
it, then that business has to follow all the additional rules that the
government imposes on it. None of these rules are ever ones that people wanted
to abide by, or else the business would have already adopted them in order to
maximize its profits.
When a government owns the business, privately owned
businesses cannot compete against it. This is because, unlike a private
business, the government cannot go bankrupt—it can always print more
money.
There is also an anonymous conflict of interests on the
government owns a business, because clearly they will be incentives for the
government to pass laws to protect or favor its business. Finally, there is no
provision in the Constitution for the US government to own any part of any
business. This applies to the car companies, the banks, and such ill-conceived
entities as Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.
Thanks in advance for your consideration and prompt
action on this matter.

Institute Term
Limits
Dear :
Please initiate legislation to limit the number of terms
that members of Congress can serve. The same reasons that made term limits a
good idea for the presidency apply to members of Congress as well. If any
individual were limited to a maximum of two or three terms in office, then
there would be fewer incentives for members of Congress to do the bidding of
lobbyists and special interest groups, since there would effectively be no
option of making a lifelong career as a senator or a representative. I believe
that there would be a similar reduction, at least to a degree, in the tendency
for the federal government to get ever bigger and more intrusive and
totalitarian.
The Founding Fathers knew the dangers inherent in the
system in which too much power was invested in too few people. With
congressional term limits, more people would have the opportunity to serve as
members of Congress, which would prove by a more diverse and broader perspective
to the legislative branch of government. It would also provide that many more
people with a thorough and intimate knowledge of our government. Basically, we
no more benefit from having career politicians and would benefit from having
career jurors throughout our judicial system. Finally, I maintain that in a
republic such as America, based on freedom and individualism, there can be no harm done by giving congressional
term limits a try.
Thanks in advance for your consideration and prompt
action on this matter.

Fairness
Doctrine
Dear :
Please vote against the so-called “Fairness Doctrine,” or
anything resembling this legislation. Any attempt on the part of the government
to control or affect the content of radio broadcasting is a violation of our
freedom of speech.
As I’m sure you know, the Fairness Doctrine is simply an
attempt by liberal legislators to put an end to the dominance of conservative
talk shows on the radio. Currently, there is nothing that prevents the hundreds
of radio stations in the country from programming any content they want. At
present, conservative talk shows are broadcast much more often than liberal
ones. Radio stations could choose to broadcast liberal talk shows more often,
but they don’t, because that’s not what people want to hear. For example, “Air
America” used to be broadcast by many stations, but it received such poor
ratings that many of the stations discontinued it. Like any business, radio
stations are in business to make money. If there were more people who wanted to
hear the liberal talk shows, then those shows would receive better ratings,
which would make more businesses want to advertise during those shows. But this
is not the case. People want to hear conservative talk radio, which naturally
upsets the liberals in Washington. Please vote against any such travesty of
justice.
Thanks in advance for your consideration and prompt
action on this matter.

Outlaw Obama’s
Czar’s
Dear :
Please initiate legislation to put an end to presidential
“Czars.”There is no provision for czars in the Constitution. Unlike Cabinet
members, the Czars do not go through any hearing or approval process, despite
the case that many of them have much more power than Cabinet members. The
appointment of Czars is merely a power grab by the executive
branch.
Thanks in advance for your consideration and prompt
action on this matter.
Sincerely,
End all
Subsidies
Dear :
Please initiate legislation to end all government
subsidies. The government has no business subsidizing any industry. There is no
provision for activity of this sort anywhere in the Constitution. It is a
willful bastardization of the language to distort the clause about providing for
the“common welfare” to justify such programs.
All subsidies distort the free market. They impose
additional costs on taxpayers for no justifiable reason, which is tantamount to
theft of individuals’ wealth by the government. It creates a system of
incentives for businesses to lobby politicians for ever more subsidies. It
leads to such ridiculous situations as farmers being paid not
to grow crops, the very notion of which is absurd in the extreme. Such
institutions are counterproductive by
design.
The government has no proper authority to meddle in
business, or in any private interactions that are agreed to by all the parties
involved. Eliminating all government subsidies would provide an excellent start
for remedying this situation.
Thanks in advance for your consideration and prompt
action on this matter.

Re-institute
HSAs
Dear :
Please initiate a bill to reinstitute the Health Savings
Accounts. This was one of the best ideas to come out of Washington in a long
time, and it needs to be continued. It provided incentives for people to shop
around and find a health program that worked best for them and their budget. It
encouraged insurance companies to provide a wide variety of options. It
decreased employers’ costs of providing medical benefits to its employees, thus
allowing them to pay higher wages instead. It helped to keep down medical costs
in general. It returned some tax money to its rightful owners, the
people.
In short, the program was successful. It proved that
greater individual responsibility and less government is a good thing, and that
is why the liberals in Washington destroyed it. The people want this program
back, and we want more programs like this one.
Thanks in advance for your consideration and prompt
action on this matter.
